"A
special box is a place to hide your secrets and dreams"
'Celebration'
Box
This
box is a celebration of different materials. The outer box
is made of heavily textured African Blackwood, and lined
with smooth cream French Boxwood. The tray, made from Kingwood,
has a centre column made of found Whale Ivory. The top is
inlaid with richly figured Thuya Root. July 2003.
This
box is on display August 8 - Sept 20, 2003 at the Celebration
of Craft Exhibition, Mary Black Gallery, Halifax.

'Queen
of Hearts' Box
This
box sits on a point and rises to a point with its skirts
remniscient of the famous Alice in Wonderland character,
so the title seemed obvious. November 2002

'Sputnik' Box
This
box reminds me of the nose cone of older space rockets, that
on re-entry into the earth's atmosphere, detached itself
and fell into the sea, where it was retrieved, and the astronauts
climbed out through the hatch at the top. The name of the
Russian satellite,Sputnik, was more fun, so that was what
it was named. November 2002

'Intrigue' Box
The
coarse texture on the sides of this box are a sharp contrast
to the glassy sides of the lid and the ball on the top, and
the warm red Tulipwood feet. Intrigue
is currently on display at the The American Association of
Woodturners' second exhibition
at Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul with the exhibit titled, “A
Nation of Enchanted Form: Woodturning Artists across North
America.” The exhibition will then be moving to the Messler
Gallery in the Centre for Furniture Craftsmanship Woodworking
School April 22 - June 16th, 2005.
